Directional or informational signage should sometimes be far more than merely functional. Take for example an educational establishment. While this is always a dynamic and bustling place, with a lot of messages to communicate, it's also an important community facility and a place where a real sense of involvement should be cultivated. If you are in charge of generating signs for a new educational establishment such as this, what do you need to focus on in order to provide the best result?
Seeing the Bigger Picture
Schools and universities provide their students with much more than simply an education. The people who pass through these establishments learn all about engagement and contribution as they proceed and will often feel a very close affinity with the establishment in question. The objective for educators is to ensure that all of the students have not just a productive time, but feel a natural affinity for their place of learning and want to identify with it as much as possible.
Consequently, it's very important to accurately and consistently display the school's identity not just within the campus, but around the community as well.

One of the most important elements is the identification sign at the entry point. This has to be prominent, proud and very well produced. It's all about image, when it comes to informing visitors that they are arriving.

In addition, the school entry way can be a place for the community to get information about upcoming events and other activities. A scrolling LED sign could be installed at this point and this is another branding opportunity for the facility to be proud of.
If you choose not to include an LED sign at the entrance, you can always erect one of the traditional information signs, where removable lettering can be configured to create a message. This is often used for motivation, or to laud the performance of a school sporting team.
How to Get around
Some establishments are particularly big and can be confusing for both new students and visitors. Directional signs need to be installed at key crossroads and these need to be both clear and well branded. A central position should be the focal point for a "you are here" map, detailing all the various buildings and their relation to one another.
